Trump settles on transition team, Pence is at the top

Vice president-elect Mike Pence will now oversee the Trump presidential transition team, officials announced Friday, signaling the ascendance of Mr. Pence on the operational side of things.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who had been running the transition operation, will still serve as one of the vice chairs, along with Dr. Ben Carson, former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, Sen. Jeff Sessions, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Mr. Trump’s family, a handful of members of Congress and a few other trusted advisers round out the top level of the team. Staffers on the transition team are the campaign’s chief operatives, including campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, who is now a senior adviser. The campaign staffers who handled press, policy and legal operations will also shift over to the transition team in those same roles.

“President-elect Trump will bring about fundamental change in Washington, and these are the right people to make that happen,” Mr. Pence said in the statement announcing the new arrangement.

Making Mr. Pence the team’s chief could pave the way for Mr. Christie to become the new chief of staff, but other names have also been mentioned for that critical post.
