New Hampshire House to vote on restoring gun ban

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – The New Hampshire House is starting its new session with a vote on whether to ban guns in Representatives Hall.

The policy on allowing firearms on the House floor has changed over the past 10 years depending on which party holds the majority. Democrats, who won control of the chamber in November, are expected to restore the ban when they vote on proposed rules Wednesday.

Several dozen opponents of the ban gathered outside the Statehouse on Wednesday morning in 20-degree weather. One man wearing a tri-corner hat and gun on each hip carried a sign that said “Keep Calm and Carry” on one side and “Ban Idiots, Not Guns” on the other.

Republican Rep. Fred Doucette, of Salem, said the ban directly conflicts with lawmakers’ oath to uphold the Constitution.
