Michael Cohen blames Donald Trump for alleged poll-rigging in 2016

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen blamed President Trump Wednesday for allegations that he rigged polls in favor of Mr. Trump during the 2016 election.

“What I did was at the direction of and for the sole benefit of @realDonaldTrump @POTUS,” Cohen tweeted. “I truly regret my blind loyalty to a man who doesn’t deserve it.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that Cohen contracted with a small IT company to rig online polls in favor of Mr. Trump in return for $ 50,000. The man who ran the firm, John Gauger, told the paper that he received only about $ 12,000 in cash from Cohen, delivered in a Walmart bag.

Trump attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani said of the allegations, “If one thing has been established, it’s that Michael Cohen is completely untrustworthy.”

Cohen was sentenced last month to three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to campaign-finance violations, tax evasion, lying to Congress and other charges.

He is scheduled to testify to a House committee next month before reporting to prison.
