Corey Stewart, a Republican, seeks to unseat Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine: Report

Corey Stewart is running to unseat Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine in the 2018 midterm elections, according to news reports and his fundraising page.

Mr. Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, is fresh off a second-place finish in the race for the GOP nomination for governor in which he almost pulled off an upset victory over Ed Gillespie.

“I’m going to run, as I always do, a very vicious, ruthless campaign against Tim Kaine, and I’m going to be able to knock him off,” Mr. Stewart told The Richmond Times Dispatch.

“I’ll be making an announcement on Facebook live at 11 a.m. EST today,” Mr. Stewart said on his Facebook page.

The donations page on his gubernatorial campaign website now says: “Stewart for Senate.”

Carly Fiorina, who lost her bid for president in 2016 and the U.S. Senate in California in 2010, is also among those considering another bid for the Republican nomination for president.

Mr. Stewart served as chairman of President Trump’s Virginia operation before getting fired for leading a protest outside the Republican National Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
