Convicted murderer claims mistreatment by prison officials

CHESHIRE, Conn. (AP) – A Haitian immigrant convicted of killing a Connecticut woman in 2015 says he’s been sexually harassed and denied medical treatment by correctional staff on multiple occasions.

Jean Jacques is serving a 60-year sentence for the murder of Casey Chadwick, and is currently housed at a prison in Cheshire. The Day reports (http://bit.ly/2uVvf3S ) Jacques has filed two civil lawsuits, serving as his own attorney and writing the legal complaints himself.

Officials declined to comment on the lawsuits, but say Jacques has acquired multiple disciplinary complaints while in prison.

Federal officials repeatedly tried to deport Jacques after a 1997 murder conviction, but Haiti refused to take him, saying the U.S. couldn’t prove he was a Haitian citizen.

Jacques was charged with killing Chadwick six months after being released from prison.
