Bernie Sanders: I’m ‘deeply humiliated’ that Democrats can’t talk to working class

Sen. Bernard Sanders said the Democratic party needs an overhaul and that he’s “deeply humiliated” that the party apparently can’t talk to working class people.

“There needs to be a profound change in the way the Democratic Party does business. It is not good enough to have a liberal elite,” Mr. Sanders said Monday on “CBS This Morning.”

“I come from the white working class, and I am deeply humiliated that the Democratic Party cannot talk to the people from where I came from,” Mr. Sanders said.

Mr. Sanders said President-elect Donald Trump effectively tapped “the angst and the anger and the hurt and the pain that millions of working-class people are feeling.”

Mr. Sanders, who unsuccessfully challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination, is an independent senator who caucuses with Senate Democrats.

He’s supporting Rep. Keith Ellison, Minnesota Democrat, to be the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
